THE SOUTHERN HOME
It is common knowledge among my family and friends that I love the southern style of home. When we built our house, Charleston was on my mind. It continues to be to this day, twenty seven years later. I am a traditionalist at my core. I appreciate all design particularly when done well. I am not one to be influenced by current trends as they eventually pass. Southerners are traditionalists for the most part in most aspects of their lives. Passing along family heirlooms from one generation to another. I have witnessed these pieces blended with contemporary design in a beautiful manner. These statement pieces anchor the home…especially the Southern Home.
My husband and I had the privelage of being guests of this lovely Charleston home a few years ago. The guest house was absolutely charming in every way. I could have stayed quite a bit longer. Be it this gorgeous Charleston home or one in Atlanta, the entry of a southern home always makes a statement…Welcome.
The mild southern climate provides opportunity for living out of doors a majority of the year. One of the great pleasures of this includes dining outside on verandas and in gardens.
The rooms in the Southern Home are warm and welcoming. Attention to detail is critical and yet it comes across as effortless. Acquisitions for the room may have been made in a matter of weeks yet the effect is that of years of accumulating and editing.
One of my favorite southern designers is Jackye Lanham. She absolutely has the soul for southern design. This is evident by her sensitivity for color and composition. Once you study her work, you will be able to identify one of her rooms immediately.
I will continue my focus of the Southern Home with my next post. The Southern Kitchen is deserving of a post, or two, dedicated to the heart of the Southern Home. This is where families and friends gather to enjoy the pleasure of creating the delectable dishes of the southern cook. This is not a seldom occurrence, it is a daily event because…
EVERY DAY MATTERS
